Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) today announced the addition of new credit card partners to its Google Wallet service, which was rolled out in San Francisco and New York.
Visa (NYSE:V), Discover (NYSE:DFS) and American Express (NYSE:AXP) will join MasterCard (NYSE:MA) and Citibank as payment partners for Google’s new mobile payment and digital coupon service. The service launched in May this year requires smartphones with NFC chips installed, which will connect with NFC enabled readers installed at retailers. Users are required to install an application that will help in transfer of money.
According to Visa, Google has also licensed the payWave contactless payment software, which is similar ot PayPass by MasterCard.
